People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.

I know, I know - pages like this aren't for everyone - but then again we didn't post them for just anyone. These pages are primarily for our family and friends. However, if you would like to learn a bit more about us, then please feel free to browse and maybe you will decide you would like to become a member of our 'extended family'.

Kenn & Della McDermott on the deck of their home, Semeion, in beautiful Buckingham County, Virginia on March 20, 1999 just before leaving to attend daughter Vicki's wedding. Vicki had asked her father to wear his U.S. Navy uniform when he gave her away. In order to be able to do that, Kenn & Della had to drive to the Naval base in Norfolk, Virginia and get Kenn a new uniform.
(Now why did this old salt need a new uniform? Gaining more than 40 pounds over the twenty years since retiring couldn't have had anything to do with it do you suppose?)

Kenn & Della on April 28th, 2001 at Camp Blue Ridge in Montebello, Virginia. As members of the Pilot Council for Christian Family Camp 2001 they stayed at this camp with other Pilot Council members to sample the food, become familiar with camp facilities, learn what their duties would entail and, most importantly, hear God's Word and fellowship with likeminded believers. The camp was held August 18-24, 2001. Take a look at how it all went by clicking here.

Here's the happy couple at the wedding of a friend on August 4, 2001 on the campus of the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia

Very shortly after Kenn was born he was adopted by Harold Connety and Martha Lydia McDermott who lived in Westfield, Massachusetts. Kenn lived in their house at 59 Hassler Street until joining the U.S. Navy on July 07, 1959, shortly after graduating from Westfield High School. He was 17 years old when he enlisted and 37 when he retired from active duty twenty years later on August 01, 1979.

Harold died from a stroke at Noble Hospital in Westfield, Massachusetts just before his 84th birthday in March, 1987. Martha lived with Kenn & Della from the summer of 1987 until her death at Semeion on Easter Sunday morning, April 15, 1990. She was 88. Harold and Martha were married 57 years. Della provided nursing care for Martha for the last years of her life and was by her side when she died.
